Route Description & Trackfiles - Final Archived Post Event

Page archived post event to be replaced by new page with post event route description and track files.Original pre event text and links are unchanged below. This page is ID /1921.

This page provides links to the final route description documents for the main walk, along with related final digital mapping trackfiles and a checkpoint summary, supporters' notes and a list of entrants' names. There is a separate Route Narrative document with interest information and a separate route image gallery page. A final amendments and update sheet is also available below but copies will be at Gainsborough School.

The final amendments and updates sheet has been issued and is available for download below. This will be available at Gainsborough School for all entrants in printed form before the event start on 2 June.

The final version, 4a, of the route description for the main event is now issued below for printing by entrants. Those who have earlier requested posted route descriptions will now have them posted. There are differences from any previous versions and entrants must use the final version, 4a. Last minute updates, if any, will be dealt with via a printed sheet given to entrants on the day of the event.

The final route description includes the timings for the night closures of Windsor Great Park, following a timings test on the Marshals Walk. These are regulated by the departure time from the Sunningdale checkpoint, and are as follows: For check point departures from the Sunningdale checkpoint (CP16 at 92.2 miles) after 1900 hours on Sunday and before 0330 hours on Monday Windsor Great Park is closed and the alternative route will operate. For check point departures before 1900 hours on Sunday and after 0330 hours on Monday Windsor Great Park is open. Entrants may also rest at the checkpoints in order to use the Great Park day route at dawn.

The event trackfiles have also been reissued below as versions 12j. Differences from the previoius version 12g are very small: the changes are at Greenwich (the Old Royal Naval College) and near Woking on Horsell Common. To overcome the memory limits of some GPS devices, as before, the track has been split into two sections: WV12jMainA and WV12jMainB.  During the night the route through Windsor Great Park cannot be used and a bypass route through Old Windsor will be activated.  Consequently the ‘B’ section file has two versions, one through Windsor Great Park and a second through Old Windsor: WV12jMainBGP and WV12jMainBOW.

Note that these route description and track files show the permissive routes at Beddlestead House, Belmont School and Clandon Park.  For recces the alternative right of way routes must still be used, as in the previous route descriptions.

While the route description will be checked further by the event team, comments are welcome and should be emailed to route.2012@ldwa.org.uk with details of the location and alternative wording. The route description has precedence over the trackfiles in any cases of ambiguity.

In addition a table of checkpoint distances, groups, opening and closing times and ascents between checkpoints is below together with Supporters' Notes that cover car parking and access to checkpoints. A simple list of entrants' names and walk numbers is provided online below (names have been withheld where requested).

If printing multipage or illustrated documents please consider using the booklet option in your printer driver if it offers one. Using this with A5 page sizes and double sided printing used a quarter of the paper and ink of normal single sided printing.

This webpage has a different page ID (URL) to the previous version and the page title includes 'Final', so if you are bookmarking these pages please replace the previous bookmark. The previous version was /1878/.
