Start Time

Route
New starting point - long stay car park (free), Beach Road, Bangor (opposite Nelson pub). LL57 1DG

From Bangor we will follow the North Wales Path inland heading eastwards past Aber Falls and down to the coast at Conwy - the route then follows the coast around the Great Orme through Llandudno, Colwyn Bay and, if time permits, we aim to finish in time to take the last train to Bangor from Abergele and Pensarn station. If progress is slower then we will return from Colwyn Bay station. It is about a mile back to the car park from Bangor station

General Notes
This is a long day - come prepared with refreshments/ change of socks, etc., though there should be plenty of opportunities after Conwy for supplies to be replenished. From Conwy onwards there will be various opportunities to return to Bangor by train. This walk is being offered by Merseystride as part of the LDWA 50 celebrations

Walk Report

Eight foolhardy LDWA members met at 4:30am at the Beach Road car park in Bangor to follow the North Wales Path to Colwyn Bay - a distance of 39 miles. After 25 miles we had a very welcome liquid refreshment stop at the Albion in Conwy before continuing around the Great Orme and onwards to Colwyn Bay. For this stage of the walk we were joined by our treasurer, Ray. Luckily the 20:14 to Holyhead was running five minutes late and that allowed us to get back to Bangor earlier than hoped and walk the last painful mile back to the car park. Although we didn't end up walking until dusk, we were more than satisfied with having walked 40 miles (65km). There's still the Eastern end of the North Wales Path from Colwyn Bay to Prestatyn to attempt - I'll think we'll keep that for another day.
