Social Walks Update

The Committee has considered the NEC's 25 March guidance on recommencing LDWA Social Walks, and is pleased to advise that North Yorkshire Group will re-start Covid-19 compliant social walks on Saturday 17 April.

The NEC's latest guidance may be found at:
https://www.ldwa.org.uk/library/coronavirus2020.php

Walks comprising more than 6 persons must comply with LDWA National Executive Committee guidelines to ensure they are conducted in a Covid-secure manner and exempt from the "Rule of Six" for other social gatherings.  Consequently walk leaders will be responsible for conducting a Social Walk Risk Assessment.

Participants must also comply with currently prevailing LDWA guidelines and Government Covid-19 regulations for England - including any stricter local restrictions in the area in which you reside.

About Us

Welcome to the website of the North Yorkshire group of the LDWA.

We are a friendly bunch who gather at least twice a month to tramp over the moors, dawdle in the dales or even cruise the coast from time to time.

Our emphasis is on sociable walks and our enterprising walk leaders aim to cover the diversity of Yorkshire's scenery often using little-known paths.

Why not give us a try.

Anyone from outside the LDWA is very welcome to join us on any of our social walks that might take your fancy, but if you like us enough to come out with us regularly, you will need to join the LDWA

If you fancy having a go at leading a walk, we'd love to hear from you. Contact the Walks Secretary Lynn Hathaway.

Covid-19 Participant Guidelines

Our health, welfare and safety are paramount so the following guidelines should be complied with before and during all walks:

  • Social distancing should be respected throughout the walk between fellow walkers and to avoid members of the public
  • Do not car share unless you are from the same household or part of a permitted ‘bubble’ from another household
  • Be considerate of the local community you are entering and park in a way that won't cause any issues or concern to locals
  • Walkers should carry hand sanitiser (alcohol-based gel), a face covering, gloves, wet wipes and a small first aid kit
  • Use hand sanitiser if you have to touch communal surfaces, e.g. gates and stiles, and wash your hands at home
  • Bring your own food and drink
  • Do not share personal items or equipment during a walk
  • Do not attend any LDWA social walk if you have recently been diagnosed with or show any Covid-19 symptoms, are awaiting test results, are self-isolating under current Government guidance or live in an area subject to stricter local lockdown rules
