London LDWA

Aaaaand... it's time for London Group's traditional Hangover Buster. On Wednesday, Day One of 2020, Susanne leads this easy-paced greeting to the New Year, designed as always to start you off on the right foot (and there's a quiz to jolt your festivity-fuddled brain back into action as well). The 11-mile route is subtitled City walls plus Churches of medieval London  and comes with a 99% mud-free guarantee, though there is one stile!

Our weekend hike is a joint venture with Surrey Walking Club. It's from Sunningdale to Staines, takes place on Sunday and involves part of the route of the 2012 London Games 100 in the morning and some nice bits of the Thames Path in the afternoon.

A brief wrap-up of 2019 has to include a very successful refreshing of the Founders Challenge, with a new start and re-jigged route; the continuing popularity of the Capital Challenge and some hard work by a dedicated group of experienced London walkers to provide two new routes for the years to come; and the planting and dedication of a memorial tree for all those walkers, now passed on, who helped to establish London Group in years gone by. And below is one of my favourite photos of 2019 (it made it into Strider) - the 'helpful marshals' encountered by Gordon as he was recceing said new Founders route.
