London LDWA

Is there any London LDWA member who hasn't yet cottoned on to the fact that this group has - how shall we put it? - something of a Wetherspoon's habit? Well, look at the name of Neil's Wednesday evening walk and you'll get the picture. Enough said. Moving on to the weekend, many of you will remember Don Bolton and Sylvia Nagarkar with affection and on Saturday Godfrey will lead a walk in their honour round some of the places they enjoyed visiting. Scroll down for the full details.

Any ideas?

Every year National LDWA invite all group secretaries to attend an informal gathering to discuss group and National topics. Julie Cribb, the Local Groups' Secretary chairs the event and usually there are a number of National Committee members also in attendance. If you look in Strider, Julie has her own page of Group News.

This year's Local Groups Weekend takes place between 16-18 November, and so that all members can get the most from their walking group and also have a say in the direction that our National Committee is moving, London LDWA's committee would welcome your suggestions for topics that could be added to the agenda which would make your walking experience all the better.

It's an ideal forum for putting out ideas and getting feedback from other groups on how they manage a particular concern or problem. If you have any thoughts and comments, send them by mid-October to london@ldwa.org.uk

Last call for leaders!

Thanks to everyone who has responded to Marie's call for leaders to fill the last few gaps in our winter walks programme. She has had offers from some gallant souls to lead a second walk if no one else can fulfil these dates but there's still time to step up with your own walk.

Dates available are:

5th /6th Jan

9th / 10th Feb

23rd / 24th Feb

20th / 21st April

Deadline is Friday for confirmation and basic route details.

The People's Palaces - Crystal Palace to Alexandra Palace

Some of Gavin's excellent photos from Saturday's 24-mile traverse of the capital from south to north - you can see more of them on our Facebook. This was London and London Group at its best - a brilliant route full of interesting and attractive sights,  great company, and awesome leading by Ron!
