We are London Long Distance Walkers and our 'handle' is @LondonLDWA, We will be tweeting news of upcoming walks and events, posting accounts and photos of our activities and - most definitely - attracting new members. But do tear yourselves away from your phones in time to sample this week's offerings, both based around Jerome's London-Brighton odyssey. On Wednesday evening comes the scene-setting Prologue, at 8.5 miles a little longer than usual, which will allow more time to enjoy the footpaths and commons of South London. This will be followed on Saturday by the first walk in the series proper, via a chain of LDPs from East Croydon to Redhill.

Meet Wandsworth Town station (17.45 Waterloo), finish Mitcham Junction station A linear walk through the suburbs and footpaths of south London, over Wandsworth, Tooting Mitcham commons and a nature reserve. This is to set the scene for a series of walks - to come later - from Thames to Channel
