Six Peaks Trail

77 km / 48 miles

Cumbria, N Yorks
The Six Peaks Trail follows the line of the railway from Settle to Kirkby Stephen taking in Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough, Whernside, Great Knoutberry, Swarth Fell and Wild Boar Fell and is divided into four sections for ease of transport and accommodation. Each section ends at a railway station and can easily be tackled in stages using the train. This is a challenging route with over 9300 feet of ascent and in mountain bagging parlance all six peaks are Nuttalls and Hewitts and all but Swarth Fell are Marilyns. The landscape is exposed and good clear weather is a must for those seeking the excellent views which are on offer in this part of the Yorkshire Dales. The guide book 'Dales Rail Trails' features shorter walks along the railway and by linking some of these this 48 mile route makes an excellent challenge.
