The route is mainly over the moorland of the Lancashire/Yorkshire border visiting Shore, Littleborough, Hollingworth, Blackstone Edge and Withens Clough Reservoir as well as passing the Aiggin Stone, an ancient waymarker on the Roman road at Blackstone Edge Moor.
