Reigate and Banstead Borough Council developed the Millennium Trail to celebrate the new century and to give everyone an opportunity to stretch their legs and to take in some marvellous countryside.

A linear route on heaths, downland and commons between suburban fringes, it heads south skirting Banstead, via Chipstead to meet the North Downs Way National Trail near Gatton, then follows the National Trail across Reigate Hill almost to Colley Hill with fine views, to descend on the western fringes of Reigate. Here it meets the Greensand Way that it follows east to Earlswood Common where it turns south past Salfords to reach Horley, going almost under the flightpath into Gatwick and briefly coincident with the Sussex Border Path.

The Trail has been split into north and south sections. Each section is of manageable length, thoroughly waymarked and has plenty of welcoming pubs, picnic areas and stopping places to let you catch your breath.

There are public transport links using trains on the two lines south from Streatham, with the southern section never far from the stations on the Gatwick line and Tattenham Corner the nearest station to the start.
