North Yorkshire group on Dave Green's walk from Kirbymoorside August 2009

Welcome to the website of the North Yorkshire group of the LDWA.  We are a friendly bunch who gather twice a month to tramp over the moors, dawdle in the dales or even cruise the coast from time to time.  Our emphasis is on sociable walks and our enterprising walk leaders aim to cover the diversity of Yorkshire’s scenery often using little-known paths  Why not give us a try?

Anyone from outside the LDWA is very welcome to join us on any of our social walks that might take your fancy, but if you like us enough to come out with us regularly, you will need to join the LDWA - certainly one of the best things I ever did!

Currently the group is having a rest from organising its main challenge event - the Kilburn Kanter - however we may well bring it out of retirement sometime in the not too distant future - watch this space.

And if you fancy having a go at leading a walk, I would love to hear from you - don’t be shy – I’m new to this too!  Drop me a line or call me at the contact details shown under Committee Members.

We have a great walking programme for the rest of the year, from Swaledale to Sandsend and many spots in between!  We also have a couple of special events lined up for later in the year:

In September, we are staging a supported crossing of the Lyke Wake Walk, further details under Walks programme, or contact me.

We were invited to put on a walk as part of the Pateley Bridge Walking Festival at end of September.  Further details can be found at the festival website http://www.pbwf.co.uk/walks

To round off the year's activities we can stuff ourselves with plum pudding at our Christmas walk and lunch at the very friendly Whitestonecliffe Inn.

And looking ahead to next year we are gauging interest in a multi-day walk along the Limestone Way in the Peak District, please see Special Events for more details and let us know if you might be interested.  Further details will be published in December Strider.

We look forward to seeing you on our walks.

Caroline Roy - Walks Secretary

Teresa Walker - Group Secretary

PS If you'd like to join the Group's email list, please supply your name and postal address (so we're sure you're a real person!) to receive the walks programme ahead of Strider, and details of any ad hoc events we might arrange from time to time.
