North Yorkshire group on Dave Green's walk from Kirbymoorside August 2009

SNOWED OFF!  APOLOGIES to anyone who tried to get to Lealholm on 20th February for the Fryupdale Frolic walk - the road conditions were terrible and I was turned back by the snowplough who advised me not to attempt the minor road to Lealholm.  This walk is the one that got away!  All recce dates proved impossible due to snow but it will return!!  In summer though....

Welcome to the website of the North Yorkshire group of the LDWA.  We are a friendly bunch who gather twice a month to tramp over the moors, dawdle in the dales or even cruise the coast from time to time.  Our emphasis is on sociable walks and our enterprising walk leaders aim to cover the diversity of Yorkshire’s scenery often using little-known paths  Why not give us a try?

Anyone from outside the LDWA is very welcome to join us on any of our social walks that might take your fancy, but if you like us enough to come out with us regularly, you will need to join the LDWA - certainly one of the best things I ever did!

Currently the group is having a rest from organising its main challenge event - the Kilburn Kanter - however we may well bring it out of retirement sometime in the not too distant future - watch this space.

And if you fancy having a go at leading a walk, I would love to hear from you - don’t be shy – I’m new to this too!  Drop me a line or call me at the contact details shown under Committee Members.

We had a good turnout for our AGM on Saturday 23rd January.  We enjoyed a short walk around Easingwold (north of York) on a fine day, even found one or two hills!  The walk was followed by lunch at The George Hotel, which proved an excellent venue for both lunch and business.  Minutes of the AGM can be found on the Meetings page.

The next opportunity to input ideas to any "planning" will be after the social walk on 8th May from Boston Spa, where we will retire to a local pub afterwards for a chat and discuss any ideas.
