Route Description & Trackfiles (Archived 31 March 2012)
This page provides links to the provisional route description document and related digital mapping trackfiles and there is a separate route image gallery page.
The route description is in its final phase of verification and will be re-issued at intervals when appropriate. The current document has been verified by a number of checkers and its quality is suitable for walking the route. You should always check the web site to ensure that you have the latest version of the route description before setting out.
The present single document describes the route both for the main and marshals events and may be downloaded below. At a later date, when all checking has been completed, separate main and marshals route descriptions will be produced. This will avoid jumping from one paragraph to another.
You can download the trackfiles for the main event and the marshals event below. To overcome the memory limits of some GPS devices, each track has been split into two files, e.g. for the main event WV12fMainA and WV12fMainB. During the night the route through Windsor Great Park cannot be used and a bypass route through Old Windsor will be activated. Consequently the ‘B’ file has two versions, one through Windsor Great Park and a second through Old Windsor e.g. WV12fMainBGP and WV12fMainBOW. Similarly the marshals track files are WV12fMarshalsA, WV12fMarsalsBGP and WV12fMarshalsBOW. Note that these files show the right of way routes at Beddlestead House, Belmont School and Clandon Park which must be used when checking the route. Prior to each event tracks will be issued with the event routes at these locations.
The route description has precedence over the trackfiles in any cases of ambiguity.
While the route description will be checked further by the event team, comments are welcome and should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org with details of the location and alternative wording.
