We will be visiting the Memorials of the Pretoria Mining Disaster of 1910. Today is the 101st Anniversary of a tragedy in which 344 local men and boys lost their lives. After visiting two memorials in Westhoughton we will go off down the beautiful Borsdane Wood to Hindley, through the golf club and on towards Abram to the vicinity of another Lancashire mining tragedy, the Maypole. Following a disused railway line we come back towards Atherton and visit the actual site of the Pretoria disaster.

General Notes
The route follows public footpaths but the likelihood is that there will be a lot of surface water. Only two stretches are muddy. We aiming to finish for 4.00pm
