The Irregulars are a walking group, mainly made up of folks from Yorkshire, Lancashire & Debyshire and all counties in between.
Unlike other LDWA Local Groups, The Irregulars are classed as non-geographical, which means our members are not allocated to us based on their post code. Instead a love of good & interesting walking, has attracted members of other LDWA groups, to join us.
What we are about:
-
A walk is organised every Wednesday and every Weekend. Any LDWA member or guest walker are welcome. Full details are published here on the web site and in Strider.
-
Walks generally start at 0800am. However this time may alter so check the walk details. The walks are usually between 15-20 mile long and on mixed terrain. A brief coffee stop is taken around 1000am, so bring a flask. Around about 0100pm a lunch stop is taken. This is normally in a pub as they are nice & cosy in bad weather. They are conveniently planned into the walk to enable folk to get a sandwich, soup or chips, if they wish. Tea drinkers are most welcome. However feel free to bring a pack-up if that is what you prefer or if no lunch stop is planned. Dogs are welcome, under strict control (check walk details for non-doggy days).
-
Regular walking trips both domestic & abroad are organised by members for members, under the auspices of the group. Participants are required to be a subscribing member of the Group.
-
Other walking events are also organised in the UK & Overseas. These are run privately by members and all are welcome.
-
Achievement badges & T-Shirts are frequently awarded to subscribing members.
-
A comprehensive magazine is published three times a year, usually the month after the issue of the Strider. This is in full colour with contributions from members, including walk reports and interesting & amusing articles and is a “right gud read”.
-
The Group organises four challenge walks a year, one of which is a 50 mile qualifier for the LDWA 100. Details are on this web site and in Strider.
-
In 2019 we affiliated to the Peak & Northern Footpath Society (est 1894), who monitor, protect and improve the footpath network in the North-Midlands & North West of England. More details can be found on their web site - http://www.peakandnorthern.org.uk/about-us/about-us.htm

Good company and a good natter can be found on all of our walks. Do walking organisations get any better? Come on one of our walk and see?
