Possible Moray Group?

Posted on 2015-07-24

The possibility of setting up a Moray Regional LDWA Group is currently being explored.

The new group would cover those who live in IV (Inverness) and AB (Aberdeen) post code areas and  it would become the nearest region for anyone with a KW (Kirkwall- including the Orkney Islands) HS  (Hebrides) or ZE (Shetland) post code.

The proposal is fully supported by the Heart of Scotland Group who would be delighted to see another Scottish group. The travelling distances involved mean that the Moray area is too far away from the Heart of Scotland's territory for it to be feasible for them to arrange walks there. Some 20 LDWA members who reside in the Moray area are currently assigned to Heart of Scotland and they would be reassigned to a Moray group, but would have the option of becoming associate members of Heart of Scotland, or indeed remain as primary members if they so wish.

The National Executive committee have discussed the possibility of the new group and have approved it in principle - dependent on there being enough volunteers to form a committee, and put a walk programme together for each edition of Strider.

All members residing in the post code areas mentioned have been updated as to the possibility of the new group by email (or letter where necessary) and asked if they would be willing to volunteer some time to help the new group. Initial feedback has been encouraging, but there is still some way to go.
