Publisher's Information 2014

The National Trails show the diversity of landscapes in England and Wales. Rugged hills and mountains are climbed on the Pennine Way and Glyndwr's Way. Dramatic coastlines are walked on the South West Coast Path and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Ancient paths are trod along the Ridgeway and Peddars Way and the Norfolk Coast Path, while walkers follow in the footsteps of pilgrims on the North Downs Way. Gentle chalk down-lands are crossed on the South Downs Way and the Yorkshire Wolds Way, while on the Cotswold Way, walkers trek along the limestone escarpment on the edge of the Cotswold Hills. The Thames Path follows a winding river to a great city. Purple heather blooms in August on the moors of the Cleveland Way. Ancient history is everywhere, not least in the journey along Hadrian's Wall Path and Offa's Dyke Path. A more recent industrial heritage can be seen on the Pennine Bridleway.

From 2005 to 2012. John Bishop walked a distance of some 2,600 miles (4.200 km) along the 15 National Trails of England and Wales, although some trails were walked more than once, which added a further 1,400 miles (2.250 km). Charities benefited as each trail was completed. His wife, Barbara. walked many of the miles with him. John has taken photographs along the journey: Barbara has sketched features of the trails.

While each trail is summarised this is not a detailed guide to walking the Trails.
