Walkers are Welcome UK Network is a nationwide initiative launched in 2007 to encourage towns and villages to be ‘welcoming to walkers’. The network has expanded rapidly and there are now over 100 locations across the UK that have joined this innovative community-led scheme to benefit from Walkers are Welcome accreditation.
Its aims are to encourage and support towns and villages to
•    be attractive destinations for walkers with top quality information on local walks
•    offer local people and visitors excellent walking opportunities within their areas
•    ensure that footpaths and facilities for walkers are maintained, improved and well signposted
•    contribute to local tourism plans and regeneration strategies
•    promote the health benefits of walking and increase participation
•    encourage the use of public transport
Benefits of its website
You can benefit from its website by obtaining up-to-date information on member towns and villages that are keen to welcome you. You can learn more about the scheme itself and its benefits, obtain latest news and developments, learn how to join if you are not already a member, and, once you have joined, gain access to exclusive additional information.

Review:

LDWA 2014

Useful listing and guide to a selection of the Enjoy England assessed and accredited accommodation (under the QIT scheme) in England that is also accredited under the Walkers and Cyclists Welcome schemes, to qualify for which providers need to cater for walkers special needs. The accommodation includes as well as b&bs, hotels, self-catering and campsites, pubs, restaurants and heritage attractions that go out of their way to welcome walkers and cyclists and covers around 150 places to stay. This guidebook is not a full listing either of all the QIT registered places to stay in England or of all of the Walkers or Cyclists Welcome accredited providers. The publisher, Hudson's Media, also lists accommodation of this type online, see the Hudson's Visitor Guides webpage link above, and some of this may be booked online there.

LDWA collaborated in the preparation of the book and contributed an introduction and pages about the LDWA's role as a promoter of walking and its membership benefits. The LDWA's website may be used to identify walking opportunities near the listed accommodation, covering LDPs, challenge walks, longer social walks and walking festivals. If you are an accommodation provider this site can help you inform your customers of walking routes and upcoming events near your business - contact ldp@ldwa.org.uk for further information.
