Three Peaks Walk (Yorkshire)

39 km / 24 miles

N Yorkshire
The classic challenge walk, taking in the peaks of Pen-y-ghent (2,278ft), Whernside (2,416ft) and Ingleborough (2,376ft) above Ribblesdale and involving over 5,000ft of ascent. Ribblesdale bisects the route, with the River Ribble and the Settle-Carlisle railway, with its scenic viaducts, running through it and Horton-in-Ribblesdale, the walk's traditional start point. A popular route, it has suffered from path erosion.

The Three Peaks of Yorkshire Club, based at the Pen-y-ghent Café, operates a limited clocking-in safety service - advance notice required particularly for groups. Full details of it and the Club on application (01729 860333). Completers may be invited to join the Club. The Ribskip Challenge offers another nearby option and the Centurion Walk (Yorkshire) a much longer tour of the area's major peaks.
