Suffolk Way

Suffolk

182 km / 113 miles
Suffolk Way is a 113 mile (182km) walk through rural Suffolk beginning at Flatford, a hamlet associated with the English landscape painter John Constable, where paintings of the surrounding countryside epitomise the beauty and tranquility found here. Suffolk Way takes you through Constable Country via the Box Valley in the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty leading to the beautiful medieval wool town of Lavenham with its remarkable concentration of ancient timber-framed buildings.

Traveling northeast you cross the remote interior of Suffolk with its open wheat n' beet clayland landscape and distinctive villages. You come to appreciate why locally the area is known as "High Suffolk". After Halesworth Suffolk Way leads you east over sandland beside the River Blyth by grazing marsh and heath, pasture and woods, mudflats and saltings, to the sea at Walberswick. Here you turn north along Suffolk's spectacular Heritage Coast to finish at Lowestoft.

Publication appears to be in limited supply but some used copies are available on Book Butler.
