Shropshire Union Canal

Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, W Midlands

The Birmingham and Liverpool Junction Canal opened in 1835 and later, forming part of the Shropshire Union, was Thomas Telford's last great engineering challenge. The route passes through rural Shropshire and Cheshire via Gnosall, Norbury, Market Drayton, Audlem, Nantwich and Chester to Ellesmere Port.

There is also the 10-mile Middlewich Branch from Barbridge.
