Rob Roy Way

127 km / 79 miles

Perth, Stirling
This walk follows the tracks and paths used by Rob Roy Macgregor in the 17th and 18th centuries as he worked, fought, and lived the life of Scotland?s most notorious outlaw. Starting at Drymen, where it links with the West Highland Way, the route takes in Aberfoyle, Callander, Strathyre, Killin, Ardtalnaig, Aberfeldy before finishing at Pitlochry. You also walk alongside Loch Venachar, Loch Lubnaig and Loch Tay and pass Ben Ledi, Ben Lawers and Ben Chonzie.

The route is now fully waymarked and there are detailed route instructions available via the Rucksack Readers guidebook and the Rob Roy Way Grid Reference List.

From March 2008 an official revision opened on the final section between Aberfeldy and Pitlochry, under the Core Paths development, replacing almost 4 miles of road walking from the Weems to Strathtay road with a riverside and old railway cutting paths on the Grandtully side of the Tay. This route will be shown on the next edition of OS maps and the 3rd edition of the Rucksack Readers guide. Details are on the website, www.robroyway.com, and the Rucksack Reader 2nd Edition has an amendment sheet.

The Lowland Highland Trail (60 miles), part of Sustrans Route 7, is coincident in parts with the Rob Roy Way between Drymen and Ardeonaig. For anyone contemplating combining Rob Roy Way and the Cateran Trail, the guidebook provides a link between Pitlochry (RRW) and Kirkmichael (CT).
