Middlesex Greenway
72 km / 45 miles
Essex, Hertfordshire, Gtr London, Surrey
A route across almost the whole of the territorial county of Middlesex through West Drayton, Uxbridge, Ruislip, Pinner, Mill Hill, Finchley and Enfield. It was designed to heighten public awareness of the former county and to help safeguard the Green Belt. It makes an arc across north west and north London, between Surrey and Essex, spanning between the Thames and the Lea valleys, with a mixture of green corridors, suburbs and waterside walking and many public transport links from the central area of London.
In relation to the two 'official' London orbital routes, the London Loop and Capital Ring, it starts outside the the London Loop outer orbital path and meets and then leaves it along the Colne Valley. The Middlesex Greenway then makes an intermediate arc between these orbitals until it crosses the Loop again at Enfield Lock shortly before heading north to the finish. It lies always outside the Capital Ring. There is a described link from the finish out to the London Countryway, another full orbital route.
The Greenway route description can be downloaded from the download link below and the paper version from the author comes with an update sheet describing minor route changes since 1990 and schematic maps.
