From Carnforth the Lancaster Canal is followed to Capernwray, where the route traces a figure-of-eight line through Swarthdale, Melling, Roeburndale, Hornby, Arkholme and back to Capernwray and the finish. The crossing-over point is at Loyn Bridge on the River Lune near to Hornby.
