Folkestone - Hythe To Canterbury

Kent

In medieval times when Hythe was a Cinque port, European Pilgrims walked or rode from here along the Roman Road - Stone Street - to Thomas Becket's shrine at Canterbury. This 24 mile pilgrim's walk traverses the landscape they passed through, passing several historical churches in the quiet Kent countryside. The route passes Saltwood Castle where four knights set off to do their mistaken dead and see the finest ossary in England. The walk has been extended along the coastline to include Folkestone, where the first English nunnery was established in the 7th century, It is a pilgrimage of quiet solitude giving time for reflection, meditation and enjoying the beauty of nature.
