Bradfield Boundary Walk

Derbyshire, S Yorkshire

68 km / 42 miles
The Bradfield Boundary Walk beats the bounds of this large parish east of Sheffield and mainly in the Peak District National Park. At 49.5 miles in total (46 miles if taking the alternative route at Oughtibridge or 55 miles if taking in the section to Swains Head) it takes in some of the most beautiful countryside in England, ranging from fertile valleys in the south and east to open moorland in the north and west.

Bradfield Parish whose boundary it seeks to follow closely is probably the largest civil parish in England covering 56 square miles. It includes many villages and hamlets all with their own historical interest linked by over 100 miles of public footpaths.

There are two short road sections considered dangerous, identified in the route description and for which alternatives are described. In addition the route includes sensitive landscapes with high conservation status such as blanket bog that should be avoided in wet weather. A free downloadable booklet including outline maps is on the website www.bradfield-walkers.org.uk, supported by Walkers are Welcome - Bradfield.
