Barnsley Boundary Walk

S Yorkshire, W Yorkshire

The Walk is made up of twelve short walks mainly through the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, but also in parts of Kirklees, Wakefield, Doncaster and Sheffield. The circular route visits Ingbirchworth, Cannon Hall Country Park, Bretton Hall (Yorkshire Sculpture Park), Old Royston, Brierley, Bolton upon Dearne, Elsecar, Tankersley, Wharncliffe Wood, Wortley Station, Langsett and Winscar Reservoirs. Public transport is available at many points along the route. Created by Barnsley Borough Council in association with the publishing arm of the Barnsley Chronicle, the Walk aims to provide a view of the varied countryside, industrial heritage and other points of interest in the Borough.
UPDATE MARCH 2021 - The route for this LDP passes through the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, using permissive footpaths. We have been advised that the Yorkshire Sculpture Park have recently started charging a fee of £6 to use these permissive footpaths.
Alternative arrangements may want to be made to avoid these charges. One possible option would be to use the footpath to the south of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, running east/west from/to Haigh.
It is not proposed to amend our GPX files at the present time.
