Originally created by the Aylesbury and District group of the Ramblers, the route is never more than 5 miles from the centre of Aylesbury, encompassing some of the remoter areas of the Vale and passing through Great Kimble, Dinton, Waddesdon, Hardwick, Rowsham, Hulcott and Aston Clinton. Much of the western route is coincident with the North Bucks Way.

UPDATE May 2022 - A short section of this route (WEN/11/2) between SP 8660 0759 and SP 8614 0778 to the west of the A413 on the outskirts of Wendover, Buckinghamshire is reported closed until 31st October 2025. A diversion is available via Ellesborough Road.

UPDATE August 2022 - The construction of HS2 is impacting the routes of several LDPs between Waddesdon and the existing railway line to the north west of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. The LDPs identified are the Aylesbury Ring, the Outer Aylesbury Ring, the Swan's Way, the Midshires Way and the Buckinghamshire Way. These right of way closures are scheduled to continue until March 2025.
