The Monmouthshire Way is a 116 mile long distance circular route that explores the ancient county of Monmouthshire. It has been designed by South Wales Long Distance Walkers Association member David Morgan. The route is one of considerable contrast. Visiting the towns of Chepstow, Monmouth, Abergavenny, Pontypool and Usk it passes through diverse countryside.

From Abergavenny the route visits the World Heritage site above Blaenavon and the heart of the industrial revolution. The broad whale back ridge of Coity Mountain is followed before the eastern valley of the Afon Lwyd is visited. Leaving Pontypool the route climbs to the Folly Tower before descending to the canal side village of Goytre. The ancient forest of Wentwood is visited and the Wales Coast Path is then followed through the Gwent Levels to Chepstow. The beautiful Wye Valley is followed to the once very important medieval village of Trellech. The Kymin is visited to provide staggering views of Monmouth and the Black Mountains beyond.

Offa's Dyke path is followed to Pandy and from here the Brecon Beacons National Park is entered and the Monmouthshire Way walker will then visit Llanthony and Capel y Ffin on route to the county summit of Chwarel y Fan at over 2000 feet above sea level. Finally, the route climbs to the summit of the iconic Sugar Loaf before descending via the Rholben back to Abergavenny.
