Scottish National Trail

The route described by Cameron McNeish from Kirk Yetholm to Cape Wrath in his 2012 book called 'Scotland End to End'. McNeish dubs this route the 'Gore-Tex Scottish National Trail', the project being supported financially by the Gore-Tex clothing company. This route is around 540 miles, includes Edinburgh and uses, in part, the canals across the Central Lowlands. The book is a travelogue rather than providing a detailed route description. It includes parts of promoted marked and unmarked trails, such as St Cuthbert's Way, the Forth & Clyde and Union Canals, the West Highland Way and the Rob Roy Way, but is not waymarked in its own right, except by plaques at the start and finish. As the route gets further north, and coincides with the Cape Wrath Trail, it requires experience with backpacking and good navigation skills over demanding terrain.
