Hobblers Way (Coast to Coast - Wash to Severn)

Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, S Gloucestershire, Wiltshire

311 km / 193 miles
The Hobblers Way is a 193 mile walk from the River Nene in the East to the Seven Bridge in the West. Running diagonally across the country though Lincolnshire, Along the Northern edge of Northamptonshire where it broadly follows the Jurassic Way, briefly touching upon Leicestershire , then on into Oxfordshire and making use of the Century Way, before heading further South West touching upon the Macmillan Way through Wiltshire and into Avon.

The HOBBLERS WAY was conceived as a twelve leg walk with the walkers using multiple vehicles, meeting at the finish point of the intended leg, leaving one or more vehicles there and using the others to travel back to the start point.

The descriptions and maps are intended to help the walker plan the route with the aid of the relevant Ordinance Survey map before attempting each leg. The walker should be competent with a map and compass, properly equipped, and capable of completing 12-18 miles per leg. The longer legs are in the middle of the walk intended to take advantage of the lighter summer nights.

Network Rail have closed the footpath at TF112068 near Maxey just south of Market Deeping. This may be in line with TV safety ads running in May 2014.

Suggested route diversion, from a walker on this route, is that instead of crossing Maxey Road (TF121067) you should turn left and follow the road into Helpston. Walk through Helpston to the Roman Road (King Street) and then follow the Torpel Way into Stamford with an optional detour into Barnack to take in the pub if needed.

May 2016: There is now a formal diversion sign in place.
