Dark Peak Stones

Derbyshire

32 km / 20 miles
A high level linear route which connects together the most famous of the Derbyshire stones. Starting from the desolate summit on the Snake Pass, it initially visits Higher Shelf Stones, overlooking Glossop, then traces an easterly then southerly course connecting together all the natural stone sculptures, before terminating at the Ladybower Inn. It is a magnificent traverse covering 20 miles of undulating terrain, whilst visiting 20 of the uniquely eroded stone features which constitute the main points of reference on the Bleaklow and Derwent Edges. It is traditional to stand on the top of each stone in turn. This linear route may be extended into a circular walk by returning to the start via. Alport Castles, or, an extended linear version of 32 miles and 28 stones is also available for fanatics.
