Accommodation Info

The 1912 Centre is a 26-bed Group Hostel in the conservation area of the old part of Harwich, only 50 metres from the sandy beach, promenade and harbour. It was built in 1912 as the Town Fire Station and the old engine garage now forms the central dining and recreational area. The upper floor has access to four cabin style sleeping areas, two with two berths and two with six berths. The ground floor has two cabins, one six berth, and one four berth with ensuite facilities. All cabins have bunk beds. The Centre is centrally heated and has a fully equipped kitchen, showers, a drying room and ground floor facilities for the disabled. Bring sleeping bags or hire duvets.  Self catering only.
Harwich is built on a narrow spit of land between the sea and two rivers and owes much of its charm to medieval origins.  It is perhaps best known as a ferry port, providing a link between Britain and the Continent.
