Same dilema with a pair of fell shoes I took to New Zealand this year. They had a last final hammering in the mountains and fell apart, so we took them to a remote part of Lake Rotoiti (Nelson national Park), made a "RIP" sign from pebbles and a final photo of them, filled them with the pebbles and whanged them out into the lake to sink forever (I hope).

And I thought it was just me that was barking mad. Matt.

For LDWA events I wear trail shoes, but for backpacking I prefer lightweight boots. Sadly, my friends of 10 years - a pair of Nike ACG Oregon boots - finally gave up the ghost after 1200 miles of faithful service.
What shall I do with them? Fill them with plants? Sink them in Fleet Moss?
What do you all do? (Garfield)
