Thanks for the info. So if I only want walks with a printed route I can follow on my own then I need to enter the National events only?

The listings of National Local or Social on the website does appear to be confusing, however there is a simple explanation. Initially when inputting onto the website, challenge events were categorised as National and club social walks as local, when members highlighted this as a misleading use of the word local, National Committee agreed, and a decision was taken to cease using local from end of November and use Social instead. So when we get into December you will only see National and Social. Hopes this clarifies.

I've always assumed that there are only two kinds of LDWA walk, Challenge Events and Social Walks (that's the way it is in East Anglia). This website has National, Local or Social. I believe (on a quick scan through) that National = Challenge Event, and both (Local and Social) = Social Walk. Confused ? What you describe (with a route description, walk at your own pace within limits, with checkpoints) is a Challenge. Other walks (generally organised for Local Group members, but any LDWA member can do them) are Social and you follow the leader. Also, if you look for the details of an event and you have to pay/enter/fill something in then it's some form of challenge. Social walks are (generally ?) free. This website is also confusing re the SEF (Standard Entry Form). It isn't exactly standard, not everyone accepts them, but as it's advertised at the bottom of all event details then it seems to be assumed it's ok for all events. It isn't, read the details... Happy Walking with the LDWA !!!

Hi,
I've just joined the LDWA and have been looking at the list of future events. Each event has a 'type', either National, Local or Social. What doeas this mean?
I have done a few LDWA events before where a route description is given out and off you go, stopping at checkpoints on the way round. Is this the format of all LDWA events as I have seen some advertised with Leaders.
Thanks for you help.
Matt
