This follows earlier news of Cumbria footpath & bridleway gates being 'sawn in half' (reported by Tony Wiley on 10th May:

and Norfolk Coast Path signposts 'stolen':
"Between 27th April and 2nd May, thieves have stolen 25 wooden footpath signposts from a remote stretch of coastline between Winterton and Horsey on the Norfolk Coast Path". "We imagine it is just an act of vandalism ...Each sign cost around £200 to produce and install ", said a spokesperson for Norfolk County Council.
