For those of you that are lucky enough to have dishwashers do you know if using your machine is good or bad for the environent?
A study by the University of Bonn in Germany has concluded that using a dishwasher is typically better for the environment than washing up by hand in a bowl.
At first that might seem surprising but when you think that a dishwasher typically uses less water than 2 washing up bowls full- but will normally wash a whole days worth of dishes it starts to make sense... and it's not just water saving - it saves on energy too. Water takes a lot of energy to heat it - so by using less water than hand washing the dishwasher is also using less energy to heat that water.
So to those of you that have dishwashers well done, and hopefully, given the extortionate cost of dish washer tablets, you will need switch to a more fuel efficient car to pay for them so further benefitting the environment!
