Did the Limey Way last December and it was good for a three day walk (40 miles so easy winter distances)

John Merrill wrote the route and it runs from Castleton to Thorpe through a lot of the dales.

Also the White Peak Way is great but needs a few more days.

John Merrill has done several routes in the Peak District so you should check out his books. Think he lived in one of the dales for quite a while so lots of that area and Staffordshire too.

Have you thought of downloading a route description from one of the old 100 routes? These can be obtained from the 100's archive on this site, and there have been a few in the Peak District.
Just make sure the routes are all on public rights of way.

We're spoilt for choice in the Peak District - hard to say which is the "best"! The Limestone Way (Rocester-Castleton) is nice, the Derbyshire Portway (Stapleford-Mam Tor) looks like a good'un (I'm hoping to walk it next year), then there's the Derwent Valley Heritage Way, the High Peak 60...

If you select the "Search by Path" option under the "Long Distance Paths" tab above, and select "Passes through Derbyshire" (as an approximation of the Peak District) with a minimum distance of 40 miles, you get a list of 34 routes (although I don't think the Mary Towneley Loop should be in there!) - it's fairly difficult to find a bad walk in the greater Peak District.

Just pick one that's the distance you're looking for, check out things like accommodation and transport, and go for it!
