Social Walks
A note from our Walks Secretary, Lizzie: Thanks to our fantastic walk leaders, our weekend walks calendar is now looking very healthy indeed, so if you are planning a weekend autumnal / winter walk, please let me know your preferred date/s in October, November, or December. Please check the Available Walks Date list first, as we do already have a few final quarter walks down on the schedule.
At the moment, we only have one midweek walk planned and it would be lovely to have a few more on our social walks calendar, for those who are unable to walk at the weekend. So, if you have a great idea for one, please pick your day and date and let me know.
Many thanks, Lizzie Bridge essexandherts.walks@ldwa.org.uk
Meanwhile we have one social walk and one marshals' walk in May:
Sunday 15th May - Looking for Linda. 20 miles. 9am start from the Woodland Trust car park, Ponders Road, Fordham CO6 3LX ( TL927286). A circular walk via White Colne, Wakes Colne and Fordstreet. Numbers are limited on this walk due to the size of the car park. Please contact Brian Martin to book a place 07929 476361 walkingbrian47@gmail.com
Sunday 22nd May – Herts Hobble marshals’ walk. Georgie will send out details to the marshals nearer the date.
And although we don’t have any walks planned for the following weekend, here's advance warning that there will be some road closures across Essex for the 2022 Ride London events from Friday 27th - Sunday 29th May. Road closures
The Essex Way Relay
As part of both the LDWA and The Essex Way 50th Anniversary celebrations we will be walking the complete 81 mile route of The Essex Way as a relay over the weekend of Saturday 2nd - Sunday 3rd July. Fourteen names are on the list to date, with five aiming for the full 81 miles, while the rest of us will just be walking various legs. As well as updates here and in the 50th Anniversary Link on our website, WhatsApp groups will be set up to discuss and plan for; transport, meal stops, notifying changes, and general updates on the walk. Please get in touch with Peter if you are interested in joining us for all or part of the walk: peter.tremain@live.co.uk
Details of each leg , plus the leaders can be found here: Essex and Herts Double 50
Walks Database
Essex & Herts LDWA - Walks Database
A reminder that we have a Walks Database where we can store information about all our past social walks. We can upload GPX files, photos and walk reports, to create a resource which will hopefully be a valuable asset to E&H for years to come. So if you have any GPX files that can be added, please send them to Richard Haynes (essexandherts.database@ldwa.org.uk) who can add them to the database.
You can also access the Walks Databases for all the LDWA Local Groups directly from the National website Social Walks Database (ldwa.org.uk) -
And finally ......
This coming weekend Essex and Herts will be represented on various challenge events, including the Marsden Moors and Marathon, The Ridgeway 40 and Norfolk and Suffolk's Rodent Wriggle. As there will be lots of us on the Wriggle, Steve Wills has suggested that we get together for a photo beforehand. So before you set off on your chosen route, put on your best smile and Essex and Herts kit if you can and join us for a team photo.
Happy walking,
Jackie
