Walk Details:

Event Type
Group Walk
Region / Area
Central England / Dark Peak / Bleaklow
Local Group
Heart of England
Route
A walk around the headwaters of the Derwent taking in Bell Hag, Rowlee and Alport Castles before going up the Westend. Bleaklow Hill and the N/S watershed are followed round to join the infant Derwent, and then pass the wonderfully named sites of Hoar Clough Head, Humber Knolls, Lands Side, Oaken Bank and Cranberry Bed before taking a chance on Slippery Stones, crossing the Derwent and following the western banks of the dams back to Fairholmes
General Notes
This is a walk on the wild side, no loos, lots of bogs though and reeds, no cafés, only peat, water and rockforms carved out by millenia of wind, rain and grit. Prepare with gear to keep out the water from above and below, carry sustenance for the day and although it is July it is also Bleaklow. A coach to/from is planned
