Bristol & West LDWA

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bruce Young who died on Sunday 2nd June. Bruce was editor of Walk West for many years, led regular walks, always welcomed new walkers and chatted to them on the walks.  He had a huge collection of photographs of group walks and wrote many entertaining articles posted on the web site about the walks he had been on.  He helped on many of the Challenge walks and was going to run the B&W cp on the next Welsh 100.  He will be greatly missed.
Funeral details: funeral is on Thursday 27 June at 1.30 at Canford Cemetery and Wake afterwards in the Beehive on Wellington Hill West.

There is a tribute page to Bruce under latest news detailing a number of his photos.

Welcome to Bristol and West LDWA

We are one of the 43 groups that represent the LDWA in England, Wales and Scotland.  We organise social walks and challenge walks.  Our geographical area is Somerset, Bristol and Gloucestershire with a stomping ground of the Mendips, Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean though sometimes we stray further afield.  Non-members are welcome to try one or two walks prior to joining the LDWA.

The Cotswold Challenge is an anual event in September.  It is a circular route from Birdlip of 18 and 26.4 miles.

The 30th Cotswold Challenge will take place on Saturday 21st September 2019.  Commemorative badge for sale.

The Wye Forest 50 is a triennial challenge. This walk is part of the South West Triple Challenge in conjunction with the Cornwall and Devon Wellington Boot and the Dorset Giant.  2019 will be the Dorest Giant; the next Wye Forest 50 will be in 2021.
