Great Harwood Walk

Walk Leader: Tom

Number on walk: 5

Distance: 15 miles

Weather: Wet

We met at Harwood bar but we were a little late setting off  due to the traffic. We headed down Whaley old road to Chiccoes then took the lane leading to Marthone viaduct and Green Way. At the end of the Green Way we went left down Mill Lane to Brownsills and across the boggy fields to the main road.  Which we crossed and through Altham industrial estate and then  more muddy stuff and on to the canal. We followed the canal until Shuttlworth hall where we had a short stop and decided to change the route to avoid the flooded fields around the Calder, so we continued on the canal for some distance till we reached Padiham Green way. Unfortunately we missed the correct path however it was a simple walk down the road and through Lowerhouse fold along a short path and we were back on route we followed the Greenway which is a old railway line to Shuttlworth mead then crossed the road and following the line of the old railway until it was unwalkable. We hopped over the fence and through two fields up the lane to Simonstone along the road up a path near the Stoke pub and past the church where Harry left us. We continued to Reed and on to Reed hall and the icehouse where we had drinks. It was then on through the estate across the road past the garden center over Cock bridge and up hill back to the car. We saw Harry leaving just as we got back. We stayed dry and a good day was had thanks to Tom, John, Neil & Harry
