New Years Day walk

Walk Leader: Ian & Karen

Number on walk: 26

Distance: 9 miles

Weather: Bright and very mild

There was a good turnout for our first walk of the year with one new member, Arthur, and a couple of guests joining us. We set off in a different direction this year heading for Great Hill for a change. Following a path across fields we passed through Fox timber yard at the top of Dole Lane and then set off towards Solomon's Temple where there were some fine Belted Galloway and what looked like Blue Grey cattle.

We then followed the track from the end of Edge Gate Lane to the top of Great Hill. Our first surprise of the day was bumping into Brian Fisher as he was coming down off Great Hill. As usual Brian had his camera out so he was able to take a fine group shot of us all.

It was quite cold, due to the wind on the top, so we quickly left the summit dropping down to Piccadilly and Belmont Road. We stopped at Hollinshead Hall ruins for lunch before heading off through the Tockholes Plantations and past Roddlesworth and Rake Brook reservoirs back to our cars.

It was here where we had our second surprise of the day,  bumping into Stan and Shirley as they were out stretching their legs on a short walk.

The day ended with a drink in the Hare and Hounds.
