Walk Leader: Jane Anthony

Number on walk: 17 plus 3 dogs

Distance: 9 miles

Weather: Sunny

After a close call with the parking (road closure scheduled for 18th September!) 17 walkers and 3 dogs set out down the A666 towards Bolton before branching off and heading up a short climb onto Turton Heights. We then headed SE on an undefined (and damp in places) path eventually reaching the summit of Cheetham Close where we took a few moments to admire the views.

The route then followed a well-trodden path down the hill and onto the track past Turton Tower. A further descent took us to the northern tip of Jumbles reservoir before we meandered up the river to Turton Bottoms and walked up the road a short way to continue on the Witton Weavers Way along the east side of Wayoh reservoir.

We took a leisurely lunch break by the water in glorious sunshine. Our route then continued along the east side of the reservoir and climbed up a short steep slope, to follow a road past the Strawbury Duck before dropping again to the water’s edge of our final reservoir. With another brief break to admire the heron sculpture our way headed west climbing a flight of steps out of the valley onto the good track leading back to the main road.

The final stage followed a track before cutting cross country along undefined and rough paths back to the road and the car park.

Thanks to Ken for back-marking and Ann for the photos which can be seen 'here'.
