Fish & Chip Walks 2019

Fish & Chips Mark 1

Mike & Kate led their traditional fish & Chip walk from Eccleston to Croston. The weather had been wet so there was some discussion over which route to take one way was overgrown, another muddy, but we got to Croston reasonably clean and dry. A pint or two were enjoyed in the Wheatsheaf before moving on to the chippy, but as we sat down the heavens opened. Nevertheless the somewhat soggy chips and diluted wine were still enjoyed before our return to Eccleston.

Fish & chips Mark 2

Bob & I returned to Goosnargh for another fish & chip walk. Weather again was a bit iffy, but 11 turned up. We knew building had been proposed in the area but as there had been large numbers of objections we did not think it would get a quick go ahead. However we skirted the school to be met by fencing all the way around the first field. We walked down the road to the next field to find the path fenced off, but signs saying pedestrian entrance, so we walked through to be met by workmen saying we could not go through. West Lancs members are not easily deterred so after some rather robust discussion we got through the building works and on our way. The route took us past Middleton Hall, duck and turkey farms, and Chingle Hall. From here we passed through a large field of miscanthus towards Whittingham and back to Goosnargh and excellent fish, chips and ale. A quick walk across one field, a path through a pleasant garden and nice views of the historic Bushells house finished the walk.
