Witton Park July 16th

Walk Leader:      Ken Wyles

Distance:            10.6  miles

Weather:            Nice and sunny

23 brave souls turned up at Witton Country Park in Blackburn for this Tuesday group walk. The car park was very pleasant and cool, and it would have been nice if it had stayed that way. However, it was the middle of July and it became really quite hot as the day unfolded with a beeline made for any available shade.

Large parts of the route were‘Bottom’s Up’ in reverse. Luckily, that meant that the ascent of Billinge Hill came early, followed by the long descent to Pleasington. The route headed for Hoghton Tower, crossing the access road, before reaching Riley Green. We then headed down to the river and on to the worst field corner in Lancashire. Normally knee deep in mud and manure, it was no problem in this weather.

A couple of miles of canal brought us back to Witton Park and our cars. There was also the welcome sight of an ice cream van, we initially thought was a mirage. Just over 10 miles bagged.
