Tuesday 28th May

Walk Leader:                   David Whittaker

Number on Walk:            22 plus 2 dogs

 Distance:                          8.7 miles

Weather:                          Generally very good – no real rain despite showers being forecast

We set off from Hollins Lane straight across the road to Haworth Art Gallery which houses the largest collection of Tiffany Glass in Europe.  (The Gallery was my second ever employer when I went there in 2002 as the admin assistant.)

Next was Oak Hill Park with the memorial to those of the East Lancashire Regiment (or the Accrington Pals) who died in the two world wars.

Up the Monk Steps along Kings Highway and on to the trig point on top of Great Hameldon.  This gave a fantastic all round clear view of Pendle Hill, Winter Hill, Darwen Tower, Peel Tower, the Halo Panopticon and many other features.

Andrew was the only one who did not go to the trig point and he was rewarded by photos he took of two deer which came very close to him.

Down along Rossendale Way through Stonefold and across to the track of the old Accrington to Manchester railway line where we saw the remains of the Baxenden railway station platform.

We returned to Hollins Lane where Beverley provided tea and cake and other refreshments.

Thanks to Mark and Andrew for the photos which can be seen 'here' and 'here'
