After the photo was taken we set off, passing Clapham Falls which were in full flow, and continued up Clapdale past the entrance to Ingleborough Cave and the climb up the impressive Trow Gill, thankfully dry. Gaping Gill was admired before we commenced the stiff ascent of Little Ingleborough before attaining the summit of Ingleborough (724m) itself. There were lots of groups already there and more coming from all directions.

The short descent to the col came next followed by a lovely walk along the ridge path with excellent views of Whernside, and eventually the Ribblehead viaduct, before dropping steeply down the grassy slopes of Park Fell to Colt Park where we stopped for lunch.

Lunch over; we had a pleasant, and easier, walk above Colt Park Wood and through pastures to reach the hamlet of Selside where we turned right to pick up the grassy bridleway which was followed to the crossroads with the Sulber Nick path. Here we headed south for about a mile before leaving it to continue towards Moughton Scar and descending the good path, with its delightful views, into Crummackdale.

The final few miles were walked along a narrow walled–in track and a short section of road before turning right up Norber Brow and under Robin Proctor’s Scar dropping down through fields to reach Thwaite Lane which took us back to our cars at Clapham just before 5.00pm.
