Remembrance Sunday, Nov 11th

Walk leader:        Doreen

Number :             16 at the service, 8 on the walk

Weather:             Rain to start, dry and sunny after 11.00am

Distance:             11 miles

We met at the bottom barn to commence the walk to the Bomber Memorial for the annual service of Remembrance which was conducted by Chorley Ramblers. Martin, Tom and Geoff were already there and before long there was a crowd of a couple of hundred. This year some relatives of Joe Timperon, the Australian pilot of the airplane that crashed, had come especially for this service. His niece gave a quite poignant speech  telling us that Joe’s mother was now in her nineties.

After the laying of wreaths and the short service 8 of us began our walk which took us past Simms, along Spitlers Edge and to Great Hill Farm where we stopped for lunch. We then continued to White Coppice and used the Amble route, albeit with a couple of diversions, to take us back to our cars to arrive about 3.35pm.
