Amble Marshals Walk

Amble short route Marshals walk

Leader: Julie

Number on walk: 13

Distance: 17 miles

Weather:  Rain most of the day

We all set off from Rivington Hall with a short route descriptor in our hands to check how well it now read and how accurate it was. As Julie was not familiar with the route she was designated walk leader following the route as described.

It certainly wasn’t long before there was confusion as to where the route did actually go as it climbed up through the terrace gardens to Rivington Pike. A significant amount of work has been, and is being, done to these gardens, so the route description as it was, was in places now very confusing. Quite a bit of clarification was needed here which did take quite a bit of time to get right.

The fire damage on Winter Hill earlier this year also caused confusion with the route, so again a number of changes have now been made here. Only a couple of slight word changes were needed for the rest of the route except for where it sets off to climb Great Hill where it had been highlighted by our guest speaker at our last group meeting, Sammy, that the description as it was, was not adequate if Great Hill was hidden in mist. The wording here has now been altered providing more detail.

All in all a very worthwhile exercise even if we did all get wet through. Hopefully the weather will be better next Thursday!
