Hurst green circular via Ribchester

Walk Leader: Jean & Brian Moat

Number on Walk: 23

Distance: 10 miles

Weather: Sunny most of the day and very warm for the time of year

It was warm weather but with a cloudy sky that 23 walkers and 4 dogs set out from Hurst Green car park heading through the village and across fields to Stoneyhurst College.  A short crossing of the golf course (no low-flying balls) brought us to Deer House Woods leading to Greengore for a quick drink stop and re-assembly.  On the way we encountered 2 inquisitive donkeys.

Crossing over to Hud Lee we descended to the Longridge Road and across fields to Dutton Hall for our lunch stop which afforded us lovely views across the Ribble Valley. By this time the clouds had disappeared and the temperature increased rapidly.

After lunch our route took us through Duddel Wood and past Stydd Manor and the Alms Houses to meet the Ribble Way at Ribchester Bridge. Following the river upstream, passing through Haugh Wood and over the hill to Hey Hurst, we went across to Trough House where we joined Lambing Claughton Lane to ascend to Hurst Green and back to the car park. A great day and good company.
