Clough Head, Aug 14th

Walk Leader:   Jean Bobker

No on walk:      24

Distance:         9.5 miles

Weather:        Fine , a bit overcast

We set off on a nice day from Clough Head Car Park & Cafe, Haslingden up through the wood and turned right on the Rossendale Way (RW) passing Jamestone Quarry and another (a Stone Quarry) to go on an overgrown path [it was short lived] and into the wood to then climb up above Hutch Bank [the blackberries up here were huge and sweet] and then drop down to Grane Road.

Crossing the road we followed a cycle route (a disused railway line) to then cross the road to a lovely park [Snig Hole] where we had our lunch.   We then followed the stream to Ravenshore to then turn right  and make our way on the outside of a new housing estate to climb up through a wood and onto Tor End Farm from where we dropped down to Carr Lane Farm and then followed the track alongside Musbury Brook to turn left at the end of it.  This track on the OS map comes to a dead end at the last ruin but the track carried on to meet the wall of the RW below Causeway End.

We turned right and followed the RW with good open views to enter Musbury Heights Quarry and the chimney.  From here we dropped downhill to Calf Hey Reservoir dam wall which we crossed and then it was a small sting in the tail up through the woods back to the car park.
